The Sample Room was the second bridal salon I visited this past weekend, and I had a fantastic experience. Having had a terrible time at the first salon we tried that morning, I came into my Sample Room appointment feeling discouraged and worried that this appointment would be just as disappointing and humiliating. But from the moment I walked in, both the consultant and the seamstress were absolutely lovely and welcoming, making me feel hopeful again even though I didn't immediately see a dress that I was drawn toward. They helped me to pull a selection of dresses to try on, and the second dress I put on ended up being 'the one.' It was somehow marked down below my $1500 budget, which I'd been ridiculed for at the other store. They were both extremely attentive, friendly, patient, and kind, and Nora also helped me to brainstorm how to make a few needed alterations to the bustline and back of the dress, which I will go back for in a few months. Be aware that the selection isn't huge because it's a sample salesroom, not a big box store or larger boutique! Some of the bad reviews seem upset about this. But if the right dress is here when you come, it's magical. Totally worth checking out, especially for brides on a budget who like lace or beading! If I hadn't found a dress that day, I would've gone back in a month or so to look at their new stock. 10/10 would recommend.

Highly recommend coming here!!! Truly NYC's best kept bridal secret. I'd recommend having an idea of what you want before coming here, as you can look through the racks yourself to see what you want to try on - but if you do, you can find couture gowns for unbeatable prices, or even one of a kind pieces. Incredibly knowledgable, attentive staff with deep experience in the bridal industry. Very upfront and honest about which gowns required more TLC and which were good to go, which I greatly appreciated. Come here to find the dress of your dreams! (PSA Googlemaps can be a bit funky about confusing W with E 21st street, so make sure you're not just blindly following Google like I was)

I enjoyed my shopping experience at The Sample Room. I was allowed with my mom to look through the racks and everything was organized very clearly. Yes, you should have a good idea of what you are looking for when you come. No, is not the place to try to figure out what silhouette you want. But even so Ivan was patient and helpful and I was able to try on around 6 dresses. It is a unique, very New York experience! Would recommend.

I came in saying I would just browse and the dresses in my budget were so nice that I ended up leaving with mine! Mindy was amazing and super fun and the gentleman who worked there was super polite and made me feel very comfortable. As someone who didn’t have a lot of budget and feels weird about trying on clothes in front of people I was posting impressed with how much I liked the whole experience :)

This place is awful. I had luckily gone to two other bridal shops prior to going here and had a great experience, so I knew right away when the staff greeted me and my friends coldly and told us to browse the rack for dresses ourselves that something was off. Things only went downhill from there—the dress selection was limited and most of the pieces felt dated and out of style. The staff were extremely rude. They barely paid any attention to me, pulled dresses that didn’t fit right or match the style I had asked for at all, and essentially insinuated that I wouldn’t fit anything because I’m too large (I’m a regular size 8/10, so a bridal 10/12–I can’t imagine coming here as a plus-sized person). Not worth the time or energy! For gorgeous designer dresses on a budget you’re better off checking out a vintage shop.
